I purchased this pillow a few months ago and absolutely adore it. I am on the autism spectrum and this has added a whole new level of Steam Deck comfort when experiencing burnout and sensory challenges. I often play it with the bottom of the Steam Deck resting on the base of the pillow for additional support (see photos) but the arm seems very durable and built to last.
NOTE: you will probably need to buy the pillow with the Universal Grip if you're looking to use your Steam Deck with a case. The Steam Deck grip is built to only accommodate the Steam Deck itself (with no case). I was initially worried about the strength of the adhesive on the universal mount but I've had no issues with it supporting the weight of my Steam Deck after affixing it to the back of my Stylthgrip case (see photos).
So Russ was right. Excellent kickstand but my only issue with it is that it’s extremely easy to take on and off. It hasn’t been a week yet with the product and I have already lost it in my bag a handful of times. I wish it had some way of locking it but for now I keep it off until I need it. But overall fantastic little kick stand. I get tons of compliments when it’s standing.
I tried this with comfortgrips but found I didn't like comfortgrips. That said, if you have no case on, this is a great option. The attachment is in the optimal place to make sure of the flexible accessories.
I do have 1 tip if you go that route though. Attach it where you want, probably best in the space on the bottom, then find a way to apply pressure overnight. The texture of the case, without pressure, can make it hard to stick on it. No fault of the attachment. As a secondary method, you can also use Loctite to glue it to part of the case where there is less surface area for the intended adhesive. Loctite has a strong bond with the case and attachment though, so that really will be basically permanent.
I bought this because I figured, why not? I didn't realize how nice it was to be laying on the couch and be able to not need to hold the weight of my handheld. Great for some games where you might want to use the touch screen with both hands. Also functions great as a general stand if you just want to watch something.
If you ever wanted to play DS games on your Ally or Steam deck but want full screen? This is an option. You can attach your phone or a small touchscreen and do some dual screen DS gaming. Is it necessary? No. But you can.
I have a universal grip attached to my Skull and Co case for my Ally X. It has a stand built in to the case but occasionally I want it at a different angle. I can attach this for that as it adjusts to whatever angle you want.

The pillow (and this arm kit) are incredible, high quality products that serve a functional purpose, but the team and their business practices/customer service at Mechanism have made me a lifelong customer. For what it's worth though - if you are considering this arm upgrade kit, it took just a couple minutes to install and works great!
You can believe the photos they offer of their product. The bag is well made, can be organized in multiple ways so your gear rides the way you want it to, and is comfortable to wear
Amazing attachment which offers so much versatility to the device. Whether you want it just for a kickstand or attaching a power bank onto the bag for easy gaming on the go as well as many other use cases
This can be used in so many ways. I’m not using it to its full potential at the moment. I love the whole concept and how one piece of equipment can do so much. The shipping wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be either.
You’ve shown dedication and commitment to us and I am grateful that you’ve offered this item at a loss to support a product that you didn’t have any obligation to support. This is just me saying that your style of business is one that should be promoted. I won’t be buying the product, since the fix worked great for me and I’m happy with the new tension and easy access to adjust it in the future. I got the base grip and grip stand for the ROG Ally X and it's perfect combo. It doesn't add to much weight and fits perfectly. It's exactly what I was looking for
Works great to mount my JSAUX Modcase to my monitor mount and retain QD removal. If anything, it's a bit squeaky but otherwise no complaints.
I love this pillow. As I get older, I get strain on my wrists from holding handheld gaming systems and this is so nice to relieve that strain.
This pillow rules just for slapping grips onto various objects I would like to use lazily in bed and are annoying to hold up for hours.
As a therapist I understand the importance of proper mechanics when using any device long term.
The amount of dysregulated nerve tissue from bad work posture and screens is incredible.
Weakness is not an issue, lack of blood flow from repeated exposure and lack of movement is the issue with loss of sensation and worker comp injuries.
This unit is soft enough it allows a shift in the way the pillow can form to the body to let it mold appropriately.
Also it allows you to keep the unit further away, which helps with habits that can feed near sighted eye issues by having a further away screen.
My biggest challenge was keeping the head straight instead of flexed and holding the unit up high enough without driving blood flows loss into the bicep.
I would shift and change positions to prevent this but find myself looking down too much which happens often when using my phone.
I could talk about ergonomics all day, in a nut shell it’s a great product.
Fantastic customer service, and the stand you need for mobile units for improved ergonomics.
It’s a nice to have for most people, but I will tell you it’s better to have this then need to pay to see someone like me for treatment.
