Good quality, but seems like it will break with weight of the Steam Deck on it. Lots of flex from the little arm thet unfolds. Love the idea, and will use it despite this. Hoping an aluminum version will come out eventually.
I purchased a basegrip with pillow and kickstand for my Ally X earlier this year. I was pretty excited for the products, both being able to stand the device on my desk as well as use the pillow.
However, this grip does not work 90% of the time. It has always felt like any of the mounts don't follow slot into the grip all the way, meaning I'm basically using the kickstand as something to lean against. Very precarious, incredibly frustrating.
Moving on to the pillow. Because it has a lock, if you use enough force to the point where it feels like its about to break you can get the grip and device to stay on, but it does not work as intended and I've basically stopped using either all together because the quality and ease of use are not there.
I left 2 stars because I can see the vision, but the quality and execution are simply not there.
The base grip fits the device perfectly, and attaches to my accessories as intended.
I bought this and the phone mount, thinking I could put this on my belly to prevent my arms falling asleep while playing on my Steam Deck and simultaneously mount my phone (for discord or youtube etc.) to the second mount, perhaps also velcro a power bank to the surface, so I shelled out over 100 bucks for the two products.
The phone mount (without the arm) is placed in a way where the large pillow makes it impossible for the Steam Deck to come down to a height low enough for me to rest my arms while playing, making it essentially less comfortable than just holding the deck. So that was a waste - with the phone mount off, you can bring the deck to a height that is comfortable, although now it is so low that the mounting arm cant resist the torque anymore (perhaps you could screw it on tighter but I feel like that may damage the threads/screw) and it is just lying on the surface of the pillow eventually, making it about as capable as the 15€ amazon tablet/laptop pillow I bought years ago. Forget mounting even a slightly thicker power bank on the second mount now also.
The deckmate mount is just clipping over the deck, if you're not EXTREMELY careful it is liable to scratch the bottom of the deck when putting it on and also won't be kind to the SD's generally flimsy plastic shell, especially at the top vent which it hooks directly into. Some sort of spring loaded latch mechanism to hold on to the deck without risking breaking it, and slightly thicker plastic wouldn't have hurt the bottom line too much, I'm sure. It also won't fit the dock anymore but you can buy an extra adapter for that which Mechanism also graciously provides 3D-printing files for, so this isn't too bad.
The entire plastic construction of the mount and arms seems to be near its breaking point and uncomfortably close to overturning screws. If this ever gets a second iteration, I'd hope for metal joints, perhaps with teeth to lock in and thicker plastic all around.
Many people seem to be genuinely enjoying this thing and I can believe that, but if your use case is similar to mine I would advise against buying it. I think I'll be returning mine.
Fits well and nice enough for the iPhone.
Awesome company! Had a bit of a hiccup with a product I had purchased and their customer service team stepped up and kicked butt! Thank you!!!
The Kickstand v2 feels sturdy, I can't accidentally unfasten the kickstand with downwards pressure like the original, and the rubber helps with placement.
Simple and great. It is so nice to be able to use the same system that I was already using with the Steam Deck, with the Switch 2. The build quality is very good, and it doesn't add a lot of weight or thickness.
I like that I can add MagSafe stickers on any device and it just works. Boom!
TNF while playing on my steam deck Oled. #winning
I don't know how I went so long without this gaming pillow. Wow, what a difference it makes when gaming on the bed or couch.
Anyone who says, "I have a pillow on my bed," or some other caustic or sarcastic comment doesn't have a clue: morons, cretins, bafoons, the lot of 'em.
Take it from someone in the know, you want this in your life.
Gets the job done. I use it for a battery bank, and when used with the gaming pillow it provides more weight at the base, thus making it more stable.
I love it, however, the locking mechanism is pretty stiff to actually lock the device, at least when compared to the one from the gaming pillow. I’m unsure if it’s defective, but it does work and secures the device in place.
All their stuff is top notch would buy again and again, actually I have.
