Mechanism

Mechanism is for the Makers.

Mechanism is almost 4 years old, but we're still only two and a half people. You read that right, A HALF OF A PERSON (Her name is Saibi and she's Siri's cousin that helps with customer service).

We exist for, and feed off of, creativity, happiness, novelty, challenges, and good vibes. You provide that for us, dear reader, along with every other member and maker who has contributed to this project. So keep reading to find out about our history.

Our Mission

Make the best sh*t.

Did you know we have a lifetime guarantee on our products? Here's the thing: that's not a selling point, it's a design philosophy.

The core issue is that "Perfection" doesn't actually exist. We try like hell to reach it on the first go, but inevitably we discover flaws over time.

The guarantee goes hand in hand with making the best stuff. It not only keeps us accountable for our designs, it also improves them over time so that one day we might be able to say we've achieved perfection. But let's be real, that's near impossible.

We get genuinely excited when you report a failure to us, because then we can fix it for the rest of time. So don't hold back, it will make us better.

Siri

Woah, what's this picture doing here?! It was never meant to make the light of day. Contrary to popular belief, Siri does not think he's Theranos or Elizabeth Holmes.

Surya

An avid sewist and maker, Surya is the wizard behind literally everything else that is Mechanism. She's got the design eye, the photographer's eye, the business eye, the planning eye. Woah, that's a lot of eyes!

Our Story

THE BEFORE TIMES

February 2022

Ah, the good old days, when Steam Decks were still back ordered and we were all guessing our ship dates based on order number. PSYCH! Siri received his as one of the first few batches and immediately started designing fun gadgets for it.

SHOW. ME. THE. KICKSTAND!

April 2022

Siri quickly realized the Deck missing a critical thing, a kickstand. Drawing on his background as a product design engineer he created a little spring lock mounting point and a kickstand that he could 3D print for himself.

THE REDDIT HUG

May 2022

He continued on to design a couple other parts, including an adhesive mount to attach a battery bank and a VESA mount for his desk setup. Suddenly, his Deck could do a shit ton more than other peoples'! HE WAS GOD! jk, he quickly turned around and shared the design for free on /r/SteamDeck and Mechanism was born.(Then called Deckmate)

FIRST MOLDED PARTS

June 2022

Siri's designs were an instant hit, but many people who didn’t have access to a 3D printer started asking for a way to purchase instead. He sold 3D printed parts with the promise that every dollar would go towards injection molding tools. He had enough within 2 freaking weeks! In the summer of 2022, Siri had the first batch of Deckmate accessories molded in China.

THE GAMING PILLOW

August 2024

After spending a couple years refining the mounting ecosystem and expanding to consoles beyond the Steam Deck, Siri set out to create additional accessories to make gaming more comfortable, enjoyable, and accessible. From that exploration came the Gaming Pillow which quickly became Mechanism's most popular product.

MAKING IT A TRUE ECOSYSTEM

To Infinity and Beyond!

Mechanism has continued to grow way beyond the Steam Deck. Their flagship accessory system is now compatible on over 10 handheld consoles, 4 controllers, all possible 3rd party cases, and includes over 15 different compelling mounts to allow you to play and organize EXACTLY how you want to.

Wow, you made it super far down the page!

Aside from giving us such great vibes (thank you), you should know we are anything but disconnected. We aren't some mythical creatures in a far away land.

We have a very active Discord server where Siri spends way too much of his time on, and you can also chat us on the site during business hours. We strive to answer questions within hours, but sometimes it might take around a day to respond! We are, after all, humans. Not robots...

If for some reason messages aren't getting through or responded to, jump into the Discord and scold Siri for designing too hard or whatever.
